RRT Announced the Report on the Electronic Communications Sector for the Quarter IV 2019

Vilnius, 05-03-2020. Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT) announced the report on the electronic communications sector for the quarter IV 2019. According to the data obtained by RRT, in 2019, the number of active LTE technology (4G network) SIM cards, used for provision of Internet services, increased by 14.4% and constituted 2.4 million units. As a result of changing preferences of citizens, the number of sent SMS text messages decreased by 18.3 per year – from 3 978.0 million in 2018 to 3 248.6 million; the amounts of data transmission via mobile Internet keep increasing – in 2019, this indicator increased by 50.5% and constituted   460 767 TB. Monthly volume of data sent and received by a single service user increased by 35.4% – from 9.8 GB in 2018 to 13.3 GB in 2019..

Total revenue received from the electronic communications sector in Quarter IV 2019 constituted EUR 182.3 million – in comparison with Quarter IV 2018, it increased by 4.7% (by EUR 8.1 million), whereas total revenue from the sector in 2019 increased by 2.9%, in comparison with 2018 (amounting EUR 693.4 million) and constituted EUR 713.5 million. In 2019, “Telia Lietuva”, AB (38.7% respectively), UAB “Tele2” (23.5% respectively), UAB “Bitė Lietuva” (18.8% respectively) received the main share of revenue earned from the electronic communications sector. In comparison with 2018, investments into the infrastructure of the public electronic communications network decreased by 8.5% to EUR 73.9 million.

In Quarter IV 2019, revenue from provision of Internet access services (including fixed and mobile network access services) constituted the main share of total market revenue received from the electronic communications sector, i.e. 42.9% (EUR 78.3 million). Total revenue received from the abovementioned services increased by 16.2% per year (EUR 41.4 million), amounting to EUR 297.2 million in 2019.

One of the most rapidly growing segments, responsible for the increase of revenue received from provision of Internet access services, is the revenue earned from dedicated data subscriptions for stand-alone services. Each quarter of 2019, this type of revenue was constantly increasing, with total increase of 18.3% (EUR 7.8 million) per year to EUR 50.3 million. Respective increase was witnessed in the sector of active subscriber identification (SIM) cards to be used in computers for provision of Internet services. Compared with Quarter III 2019, the number of active SIM cards in Quarter IV 2019 increased by 3.5% (21.2 thousand) up to 630.3 thousand. The number of SIM cards increased by 18.4% (98.1 thousand) per year.
