Vilnius, 12-03-2020. Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT) announced the report on the postal service market for the quarter IV 2019. In 2019, the number of self-service terminals increased by 2.6 times, from 214 in 2018, to 550 in 2019. The number of outgoing international parcels increased by 34 percent (3.37 million parcels were posted from Lithuania in 2019, in comparison with 2.51 million parcels in 2018) per year, whereas the number of international incoming parcels increased by 19.6 percent (2.94 million parcels received from abroad in 2019, compared to 2.46 million parcels in 2018).
According to the data obtained by RRT, the revenue received from the universal postal services in Quarter IV 2019 constituted EUR 55.0 million, i.e. increased by 7.6 percent, in comparison with Quarter IV 2018. In 2019, the total annual revenue earned from the postal service market increased by 11.7 percent in comparison with 2018, and constituted EUR 191.07 million. According to the overall income, in 2019, the biggest market share was held by: AB “Lithuanian Post” (respectively with 36.3 percent of market share), UAB “DPD Lietuva” (respectively with 18.0 percent of market share) and UAB “DHL Lietuva” (respectively with 12.1 percent of market share).
Compared to 2018, investment in the development of postal services more than doubled in 2019 (increased by 119.3 percent) and constituted EUR 12.0 million. This increase was conditioned by the investment of AB “Lithuanian Post” to the construction of parcel and letter distribution center, as well as investments by other providers of postal services into development of the self-service terminals network. The major share of self-service terminals was owned by UAB “Omniva” (54.5 percent), AB “Lithuanian Post” (29.5 percent), UAB “DPD Lietuva” (15.5 percent).
The number of stationary postal service points increased by 12.1 percent per year and constituted 723 units. In 2019, the number of postal boxes for outgoing mail decreased by 13.1 percent. The number of leased postal boxes for received correspondence of recipients of postal services decreased as well by 38.2 percent.
The increasing number of self-service terminals and stationary postal service points conditioned the increase of revenue received from the unconventional postal services (express consignments, delivery of postal items to the self-service terminals, etc.). In 2019, this revenue constituted EUR 126.78 million (increased by 11.4 percent, compared to 2018), corresponding to 66.4 percent of total revenue received from the universal postal services. In comparison with 2018, the number of parcels posted by unconventional postal services in 2019 increased by 19.1 percent, or 3.7 million units, constituting 23.11 million units.
