The Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT) wishes to inform you that the electronic communications regulatory authorities of the European Union have started collecting and sharing information on internet capacity and traffic loads during the COVID-19 pandemic in European states.
Since the beginning of April, RRT, like other EU national electronic communications regulators regularly collects data on network capacity from the national operators and provides aggregated information to the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) which brings together the EU regulators. BEREC produces reports on the situation of electronic communications networks in Europe on the basis of the data received.
On 8 April 2020, BEREC published its first report, which provides an overview of the latest data provided by 31 national regulatory authorities. These reports will be regularly updated with new data provided by the regulators. Next report will be available on 15 April 2020.
This BEREC report is available on the RRT website, in a special section on COVID-19 https://www.rrt.lt/en/covid-19-important-information/covid-19/. It will also publish further updates on internet capacity in the EU during COVID-19.

Data collection on internet network capacity in all EU member states was launched on 19 March 2020 by the joint statement from the European Commission and BEREC on the increased demand for network connectivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was agreed to set up a special reporting mechanism to ensure regular monitoring of the Internet traffic situation in each Member State to be able to respond swiftly to network capacity issues.
