CRA LAUNCHES A PROJECT TO REDUCE THE DIGITAL EXCLUSION OF SENIORS

October 30, 2023

On 30 October, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) launched a new educational project aimed at reducing the digital exclusion of seniors.

The patron of the project “Digital Decade: No One is Forgotten” is the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.

“In our country, we are doing a lot to reduce social exclusion. In this era of technological development, it is important that the digital divide does not become a cause of increasing social exclusion. I am delighted that today we are launching an initiative to improve the digital skills of older people,” the President said at the event.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, also participated in the presentation of the project at the Presidential Palace. Presentations were given by Dr. Zita Žebrauskienė, Rector of Medardas Čobotas University of the Third Age, and Giedrė Ramanauskienė, Head of the Innovation Analysis and Policy Department of the Lithuanian Innovation Centre.

Invites others to join

Jūratė Šovienė, Chair of the CRA Council, who presented the project, stressed that technology is not at the core of digital transformation.

“At the core of the digital transformation is a consumer with digital skills and competences and who trust in digital services. Unfortunately, they are often left to drown in an ocean of technological advances that are inaccessible to them,” said J. Šovienė.

She said that the aim will be to make the project “Digital Decade: No One is Left Behind”, initiated by the CRA, a nationwide project.

“But we won’t be able to do it without the involvement of other public institutions, businesses and communities. We therefore invite all those who feel obliged to contribute to join us”, urged the Chair of the CRA.

The event concluded with a discussion with the participation of Vytautas Šilinskas, Vice Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Marius Čiuželis, founder of “Silver Line”, Erika Kuročkina, Vice Minister of Economy and Innovation, Simonas Černiauskas, Head of the “Infobalt” association, Birutė Sabatauskaitė, Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson, and Algimanta Žukauskienė, host of the show for the senior citizens, “My passport is lying”.
