This year, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has already identified 12 types of devices that sellers have had to remove from the market. In total, 99 different types of devices were tested at the CRA laboratory in Kaunas until the beginning of September, and 30 types of devices were also tested for compliance with administrative requirements.
“We supervise electrical and electronic apparatus and radio communication equipment on the Lithuanian market – both in the general trade and in e-shops”, says Arvydas Giedraitis, Head of the Compatibility Division of the CRA.
This year, the following products from different manufacturers are among those to be removed from the Lithuanian market: a refrigerator, a radio station, radio-controlled toys, a juicer, a wireless microphone system, a wine fridge, a WiFi amplifier and LED lamps. According to A. Giedraitis, these devices were emitting unauthorised interference, both through their conductors, into the power supply network, and through their enclosure – electromagnetic radiation into the environment. In other words, the CRA laboratory found that they interfered with other nearby equipment.
European Union countries are promptly informed of such non-compliant products, as non-compliant equipment cannot be sold throughout the EU market.
“As part of our market surveillance, we have also informed another retailer about two types of wireless network routers found to be in moderate non-compliance with the technical requirements. We have recommended that the trader should no longer place these devices on the market and should no longer order them from suppliers,” says A. Giedraitis, whose CRA laboratory was appointed this April as the first and only EU-wide testing body with the competence and right to carry out market surveillance tests in the radio equipment sector for all EU Member States.
This year, the CRA also carried out 30 product inspections in 11 e-shops. Checks showed that 7 items did not have all the documents needed to comply with European Union requirements. These include two USB chargers, one scooter charger, one charging adapter, one external battery and two kettles.
