The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has granted the right to the Centre of Registers to distribute qualified electronic signature and electronic seal certificates using a new technological solution – the LT ID mobile application.
“As a regulator, it is important for us to increase the number of suppliers on the market, to see intense competition and to ensure that consumers benefit. We want consumers to trust and use new technological solutions, which is why we assess the security and reliability aspects before they appear on the market”, explains Kristina Mikoliūnienė, Member of the CRA Council.
The new application of the Centre of Registers, which has been authorised by the CRA, is designed to manage qualified electronic signature and seal creation data and certificates remotely. Currently, there are 4 different technological solutions available in Lithuania for signing with a qualified electronic signature: smart cards, USB cryptographic keys, SIM cards and the Smart-ID app.
“The CRA’s decision has created an opportunity for a fifth – LT ID app,” says K. Mikoliūnienė
Once this technological solution is operational, persons will be able to order a qualified electronic signature and stamp certificate with their existing mobile electronic signature or by visiting the Customer Service Division of the Centre of Registers. The certificate would then need to be independently linked to the LT ID mobile app installed on the person’s phone, which will be used to activate the e-signature creation credentials each time they sign.
