Being an active member of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications BEREC, RRT contributes to BEREC activities in these challenging times, shares and supports various initiatives to ensure a smooth operation of communication channels with Ukraine. At present The Lithuanian operators have voluntarily provided:
- SIM cards to Ukrainians refugees arriving at Lithuania. Operators launched distribution of free-of-charge SIM cards to Ukrainian refugees. They deliver free-of-charge communication services in Lithuania. This service will be valid for 3 months.
- Free-of-charge calls to Ukraine. Operators have announced that they will not apply wholesale tariffs or will apply these tariffs lower than the EU for refugees arriving from Ukraine whose SIM will connect to LT networks, as well as roaming in Ukraine, including data for LT subscribers in Ukraine.
- Roam-like-at-home services for Ukrainians. Operators have announced that they will not apply wholesale tariffs or will apply these tariffs lower than the EU for refugees arriving from Ukraine whose SIM will connect to LT networks.
- Free-of-charge Ukrainian TV channels. Lithuanian service providers have additionally turned on free-of-charge information TV channels in their bundle offers. By the decision of the Lithuanian Radio and television Commission, retransmission of propaganda Russian channels was suspended.
In a response to a request from the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatisation of Ukraine to take actions aimed at blocking Russian roamers and roaming services for Russian telecom providers in the EU, BEREC Chair informed that this request was forwarded to the EC to be discussed at a political level.
