On 19 April, Lithuania hosted a reception for participants of the ITU Council in which Feliksas Dobrovolskis, Director General of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), and Ambassador Andrius Krivas, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, presented Dr. Mindaugas Žilinskas, Deputy Director General of the CRA, as a candidate to the post of ITU Radiocommunications Bureau Director as well as Lithuania’s candidacy for re-election to the ITU Council. In his speech at the reception, ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao wished success in the elections and congratulated Lithuania on the Centennial Anniversary of the Restoration of the Lithuanian State. SG Zhao recalled that Lithuania became ITU member on 1 July 1923 and, after regaining independence, its membership was renewed on 12 October 1991.
Elections to the ITU Council as well as to the highest managerial positions will be held at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference that will take place on 29 October – 16 November 2018 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
